Guiding Principles

For over a century, the Carpenters’ Union has worked with Industry and government.  During this time, we have developed certain core values that apply to not only the members at work on the construction site, but also to the Executive of the Union.

PRIDE:  The pride we take in our work is evidenced in the projects we build.  By applying the highest standards of construction training and safety, we are able to make real the dreams of architects and builders.

PRODUCTIVITY:  The skills acquired on the job and via training help us to remain competitive and efficient.  Projects work best when they are on budget and on time.  We recognize the value in both.

ATTITUDE:  Our members combine their skills and training with their own motivation, dependability and commitment to the project.  Our attitude is certainly “Can Do!”

COOPERATION:  Partnerships mean mutual support.  Ours begins with workers committed to common goals and extend to the owners, builders and other skilled trades on site.  We believe in teamwork.

PROFESSIONALISM:  Guided not only by construction principles and labour legislation, the Union maintains its own Constitution requiring the cooperation and support of its members in maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.

QUALITY:  We are quality conscious tradespeople committed to our work.  We achieve this by combining skills and knowledge to consistently perform superior work.

SAFETY:  Our members are trained and certified in working safely.  We are safety conscious at all times, require the safe use of equipment and protective clothing and keep our job sites secure and well organized.

SERVICE:  At the Carpenters’ Union, our commitment to service stems from our dedication to our members, their families and their employers to ensure continued success and growth in the construction industry.
